Gastronomic event in Spain: Saffron Rose Festival
Every year in late October, the town of Consuegra, Toledo celebrates the Saffron Rose Festival. This celebration recognizes the importance of saffron to the culture of Castile-La Mancha, which produces 90% of Spanish saffron and is considered optimum in quality. Included in the activities is the famous Saffron Rose pruning contest to see who is the fastest and most efficient extracting the saffron stigma from the flower. There are also gastronomic activities using saffron in the regional recipes, theatre events and traditional music with dancing.
